Odmowa sprostowania następuje w formie decyzji administracyjnej od której przysługuje odwołanie do Wojewody Śląskiego.

It is possible to rectify a civil-status record containing data that are inconsistent with those contained in collective records or with other civil-status records, insofar as they mention a previous event and concern the same person or his descendants, or with foreign civil-status documents. If the rectification of a civil-status record is carried out ex officio or at the request of a person other than the person concerned or his legal representative, this person will be informed by the head of the civil-status office of any intention to rectify his civil-status record or of the request for rectification.

Sprostować można akt stanu cywilnego, który zawiera dane niezgodne z danymi zawartymi w aktach zbiorowych lub z innymi aktami stanu cywilnego, o ile stwierdzają one zdarzenie wcześniejsze i dotyczą tej samej osoby lub jej wstępnych, albo z zagranicznymi dokumentami stanu cywilnego. Jeżeli sprostowania aktu stanu cywilnego dokonuje się z urzędu lub na wniosek innej osoby niż ta, której akt stanu cywilnego dotyczy lub jej przedstawiciela ustawowego - osoba ta zostanie powiadomiona przez kierownika urzędu stanu cywilnego o zamiarze sprostowania jej aktu stanu cywilnego lub złożeniu wniosku o sprostowanie.
