Additional info
Acknowledgment of paternity of a child is carried out orally before the Head of the Registry Office. To carry out this act, the biological father of the child and the child's mother must be present. A record of the acknowledgment of paternity must be drawn up. Paternity may also be acknowledged before the guardianship court and abroad before the Polish consul. Paternity may be acknowledged with regard to a child - conceived (before its birth) - born, up to the age of 18 - deceased before reaching the age of majority - within 6 months from the day on which the man making the acknowledgement learned about the child's death, but not later than the day on which the child would have reached the age of majority. Situations in which acknowledgment of paternity may not be made before the head of the register office/consul - coming of age of the child - acceptance of declarations necessary for the acknowledgment or refusal to accept them by another head of the civil registry office or consul - doubt about the origin of the child - initiation of court proceedings to establish paternity - lack of full legal capacity by the persons making the declarations. Refusal of the head of the civil status office to accept the declarations necessary for the acknowledgment of paternity makes the acknowledgment of paternity possible only before the guardianship court.
